Zelma Derrick

Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 3, at Woodbine Cemetery for Zelma Derrick, 1110 W. Sears Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Derrick, 96, died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at her home. Jimmy Derrick will officiate at the services. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Derrick was born November 21, 1911 in Zena, Oklahoma; the daughter of John Franklin Reed and Cordelia Bates Reed. On July 19, 1930 she was married to William McKinley Nance in Jay, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1965. On November 15, 1975 she was married to Tommy Slick Derrick in Artesia. She came to Artesia in 1975 from Albuquerque, NM. He preceded her in death July 5, 1991. She was a salesclerk for Sears, member of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ, and attended the Ladies Bible Study Group at First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister, and a grandchild. Survivors include sons McKinley Nance, Jr. of Artesia, and John Scott Nance of Antioch, California; sister-in-law Zora Reed of Grand Junction, Colorado; two grandchildren Cordelia Nance, and Jessica Nance; 7 gGreat-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
