Ydubina Melendez

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Ydubina Bihl Melendez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Melendez, 88, died Monday, March 2, 2015 at San Pedro Nursing Center in Artesia.

Fr. Martin Cornejo O.F.M. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Anthony Thomas, David Johnathan Thomas, Sammy Lee Wagner, Simon J.Salazar, III., Raymundo Francisco Melendez, and Richard Bihl. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday beginning at 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Ydubina was born July 15, 1926 in Presidio, Texas; the daughter of Encarnacion Bihl and Josefa (Nunez) Bihl.

On October 2, 1949 she was married to Manuel Melendez in Presidio, Texas. They moved to Artesia in 1951 from Texas. He preceded her in death August 18, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, and 11 siblings.

Ydubina worked as a homemaker and a housekeeper. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, the San Jose Society, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She sang in the Guadalupano Choir and loved to sew, cook, can, and bake. Her favorite color was green, so to honor her, the family would like to request to have everyone wear green Saturday at her service.

Survivors include her daughters Helen Mariscal and husband Santos of Artesia, Josie Melendez of Albuquerque, N.M., and Carolina Melendez of Ruidoso, N.M.; sons Manuel Melendez, Jr. of Artesia, and Francisco Melendez of Las Vegas, N.M.; grandchildren Monica Phillips, David Johnathan Thomas and wife Angela, Marcos Juan Mariscal, Simon J. Salazar, III, Michael Anthony Thomas and wife Meagan, and Raymundo Francisco Melendez; great-grandchildren Celine Aimee Luna, Michelle Rose Thomas, Tristan, Isaiah David Thomas, Michael Isaiah Thomas, Roselyn Thomas, and Logan Bulgrin.
