Wayne Smith

April 26, 1940 — June 4, 2014

Memorial services are scheduled for Monday, June 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Terpening and Son Mortuary, for Wayne Floyd Smith of Artesia, N.M.

Wayne, also known as The Old Man in the Booth, left us here on earth, June 4, 2014 at his home.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening and Son Mortuary.

Wayne was an avid story teller and if you ever had a chance to sit and talk with him you were sure to have been told an outstanding story of the wild west, rodeo, football or chicken fighting. He never met a stranger, either out in the oil patch or sitting in his booth at his office on 1st and Hermosa.

Wayne drove a water truck out in the oil fields most of his life, but also worked in the mines in New Mexico and Arizona.

In his younger days he was a football player for the Carlsbad Cavemen. He was also one heck of a dancer. He could twostep and waltz just as smooth as he would tell his stories.

Wayne was the most stubborn and hard headed man youd ever meet, but he had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody that needed a helping hand.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Naron Floyd Smith and Cora Marie Smith, and a sister Ina Lavern Witt.

Wayne has three granddaughters, Cora Marie Tucker, Brylie Pearl Tucker and Brady Waynette Morgan. He adored them so very much and they loved their Papa Wayne. He is also survived by his sister Velda Barnes and husband Charles of Cloudcroft, N.M. brother Danny Smith of Carlsbad, N.M. daughter Ina Morgan of Los Lunas, N.M. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be dearly missed by many friends and family and those who frequented his office.

I Love You Daddy Ill see you again someday. Love Your Fussbucket
