Wanda Swafford

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, at Terpening Son Chapel for Wanda Jean Swafford, 2701 Johnson Rd., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Swafford, 76, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at her home. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Holder, Jeff Holder, John Beck, Rickie Swafford, Mike Stegall, Buddy Grantham, Michael Lee, and Rusty VanCuren. Honorary pallbearers will be Owen Taylor, Clyde Feezel, Bobby Blevins, Perry Holder, Wayne Holder and the walkers at the Total Life Center. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Swafford was born March 6, 1930 in Blackwell, Oklahoma; the daughter of Floyd Springer and Lola Black Springer. On Nov. 18, 1949 she was married to Joe D. Swafford in Carlsbad, N.M. She came to Artesia in the mid 1930's from Oklahoma. He preceded her in death April 6, 1999. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister Velma Peg Springer; brothers Jackie Floyd Springer, and Samuel Jake Springer. Survivors include her daughters Peggy Jo Swafford of Artesia, and Nancy Holder and husband Charles of Artesia; brother-in-law Bill Swafford of Artesia; sister-in-law Juanita Swafford of Artesia; grandchildren Tobie Beck and husband John of Lubbock, Texas, Laura Holder of Portales, N.M., and Jeff Holder and wife Riann of Artesia; great-grandchildren Colby Chase Holder and Brylee Burke Holder both of Artesia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
