Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Terpening Son Chapel for Wanda Juanita Walker Cates of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Cates, 92, died Friday, February 28, 2014 in Roswell, New Mexico.

Michael Elliott will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Shay Smith, Shane Smith, Jeff Smith, Colby Smith, and Phillip Cates.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Wanda was born July 30, 1921 in Pawnee, Oklahoma the daughter of Harry Walker and Hazel McQuisten Walker.

On May 11, 1941 she was married to Harold F. Cates in Osage County, Oklahoma. They came to Artesia in Early 1940s from Oklahoma. He preceded her in death May 29, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, a brother, and a grandson.

She was a homemaker, worked at K Mart, and was an avid bowler. She loved to travel to all of her tournaments in many states. She and her girlfriends had many great times together and she had a smile on her face for everyone. She was always there ready to help anyone and will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include her son Harold Eugene Cates and wife Joyce of Roswell daughter Frances Juanita Bratcher and husband Robert of Artesia grandchildren Shay Smith and wife Cairene of Pawnee, Oklahoma, Shane Smith and wife Melissa of Artesia, Phillip and Menolly Cates greatgrandchildren Eric, Jeff, and Colby Smith, Katie Smith, Hannah Hughes, and Sagan Stark 3 greatgreatgrandchildren sister Darlene Oltmans and numerous nieces and nephews.
