Virginia Valencia

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, December 23, at First Baptist Church, for Virginia Valencia of Artesia, N.M.

Mrs. Valencia, 81, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at her home.

Pastor Abelardo Bolanos will officiate at the service with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Torres, Angel Gallegos, Dario Velasquez III, Richard Velasquez Jr., Dominic Valencia, Allen Gallegos, Anthony Gallegos, and Josh Muniz. Honorary pallbearers will be her sons Jose Valencia, Jessie Valencia, Erasmo Valencia and grandson Ramiro Valencia.

A prayer service is also scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Terpening & Son Chapel.

Virginia was born June 1, 1935 in Ojinaga, Mexico; the daughter of Agapito Verdoza and Rosalia Baeza Verdoza. She was married to Felipe Valencia in Artesia, N.M.

Virginia was a longtime resident of Artesia, and was a member of the First Spanish Baptist Church. She enjoyed knitting, shopping, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Francisco Berdoza, Tomas Verdoza, Elojio Verdoza, Marcelino Galindo and Pilar Vasquez, and sisters Dominga Ramirez and Prajedes Verdoza, and grandson Jason Valencia.

Survivors include daughters Rosario Torres of Artesia, Elena Molitor and husband Christian of Del Rio, Texas, Guadalupe Gallegos and husband Maurilio of Lovington, N.M., Olga Hughes of Lovington, Irma Valencia of Hobbs, N.M., and Cindy Valencia of Hobbs; sons Jose Valencia of Artesia, Jessie Valencia of La Grange, Texas, and Erasmo Valencia of Artesia; a brother Angel Verdoza of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren Veronica Torres, Angelica Villalobos, Laura Arias, Ramiro Valencia, Stephanie Muniz, Jessie Ray Valencia, Dominic Valencia, Joshua Valencia, Angel Gallegos, Abel Gallegos, Anthony Gallegos, Allen Gallegos, Sylvanna Barraza, Sylvia Wood, Richard Velasquez Jr., Dario Velasquez III, Steven Velasquez, Marcilena Torres, Andrew Torres, Jonathon Martinez and Cristina Martinez; 45 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
