Virginia Alvarez

Services are scheduled for 10 am Wednesday, May 31 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Virginia Ornelas Alvarez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Alvarez, 74, died on May 21, 2023 in Lubbock, Texas.

Fr. Vijay will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joe Luis Palma, Jr., Scott Bourgeios, J. J. Ornelas, Kerry Ornelas, Jerrod Ornelas, and Chilo Cortez. Honorary pallbearers: Barry Ornelas, Armanado Herrera, Ramiro Flores, and Dakota Winder.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 2 to 6 pm on Tuesday. A rosary is also scheduled for 9:30 am on Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace Church.

Virginia was born on April 15, 1949 in Artesia; the daughter of Jesusita Ornelas. She was married to Juan Alvarez on December 27, 1993. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family, and also watching her Novellas.

She was preceded in death by her mother, a grandson Joe Mikel Palma, brother Joe Ornelas and nephew Edward Ornelas.

Survivors include her husband Juan Alvarez; a daughter Ida Jo Palma and husband Joe; grandchildren Samantha Palma and Ramiro Flores, Krystal Palma and Dakota Widner, and Joe Luis Palma Jr.; great-grandchildren Adilene Flores, Kynsleigh Widner, and Westin Widner; brothers Mike Fuentes and Leo Moreno; step-sons Lupe Alvarez, Mark Alvarez, and Robert Alvarez; a step-daughter Cynthia Linge, and numerous nieces and nephews.
