Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ for Virgil Emmett Green, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Green, 70, died Monday, September 22, 2003 at his home. Michael Joiner will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Curtis Allen, Larry Combs, Jerry Dodd, Billy Snowden, Chava Flores, Jackie Clifton and Craig Liles. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Maskew, J. T. Jackson, Jimmy Watkins, Mike Rollins; all Marbob employees; and all former Quarterback Sons and Artesia Little League ballplayers. Mr. Green was born April 2, 1933 in Tatum, New Mexico; the son of Emmett M. Green and Virgie Ella Houston Green. He came to Artesia from Tatum in 1954. On March 3, 1955 he was married to Eva Sue Gray in Artesia, New Mexico. He was a pumper for Marbob Energy until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ; past president of the Artesia Quarterback Club; coached Little League Baseball and enjoyed kids. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by brothers W.M. Green and Bud Green. Survivors include his wife Eva Sue Green of the family home; a son Martin Green and wife Michele of Artesia; a daughter Rhonda Nelson and husband Gary of Artesia; sisters Lee Hood of Bogata, Texas, Claudine Frier of Carlsbad, and Norma Jean Stewart and Matta Burns both of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren Brienne Green, Deven Nelson and Jorden Nelson all of Artesia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
