Victoriano Torrez

Services are scheduled at 9:30 am. Saturday, July 26, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Victoriano Paz Torrez, 1404 W. James Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Torrez, 79, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at North Cypress Medical Center in Cypress Texas. Fr. Paul Murtagh SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Thomas Aguilar, Michael Aguilar, Roberto Aguilar, Johnny Angel Garcia David Garcia, Anthony Torrez, Andres Torrez and Daniel Torrez. A rosary is also scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Friday. Victoriano was born February 5, 1929 in Marfa, Texas; the son of Trinidad Torrez and Petra Paz Torrez. On March 31, 1951 he was married to Carmen Muela in Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico. He came to Artesia in 1941 from Marfa. He was a carpenter. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Cursillistas, and the San Jose Society. He was a devoted Bulldog Football Fan, enjoyed hunting, cooking especially with different varieties of chile, he was known in the family as the King of Red Chile con Carne, most of all he loved spending time with his family and reading western books and novels, and watching western movies. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers a sister and a daughter-in-law. Survivors include his wife Carmen Torrez of the family home; sons Joe Victor Torrez and wife Sally of Houston, Texas, Robert Torrez and wife Valerie of Artesia, and Alfredo Torrez of Arlington, Virginia; daughters Carmen Aguilar and husband Tom of Houston, and Olivia Garcia and husband Johnny of Lemoore, Calif.; sister Rachel Perkins and husband John of Las Cruces, N.M.; eleven grandchildren Thomas Aguilar, Michael Aguilar, Roberto Aguilar, Johnny Angel Garcia, David Garcia, Anthony Torrez, Angelica Torrez, Leah Torrez, Andres Torrez, Amanda Torrez and Daniel Torrez; great-grandchild Jonah Aguilar; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association www.americanheart.org or the San Jose Society of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
