Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Trinity Temple Assembly of God for Vernon Edward Smith of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Smith, 90, died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Artesia General Hospital.
Pastor Bobby Argo will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jerry Robinson, Justin Robinson, Duncan Vernon, David Beltran, Andrea Madrid, and Randy Garrett.
Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Vernon was born October 5, 1920 in Mountainair, New Mexico the son of Irvin E. Smith and May Stewart Smith. He came to Artesia in 1975 from Alamogordo, N.M.
He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II.
On May 18, 1985 he was married to Clydea M. Lamb in Artesia.
He was a mechanic for the Civil Service and a member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents brothers Lawrence and Nolan sisters Olita and Polly and two greatgrandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Clydea M. Smith of the family home daughters Tina Hale and husband Brett of Las Cruses, N.M., Darby Vernon of Artesia, Denise Robinson and husband Roger of Ulysses, Kansas, and Darla Vernon of Artesia sons Kirk Smith and wife Kirsten of Oregon, and Harlen Vernon and wife Linda of Silverton, Texas sisters Bernice Peletier of Carlsbad, N.M., and Florence Robinson and husband Joe of Carlsbad brothers Jerry Smith and wife Geraldine of Alamogordo, and Melton Smith of Amarillo, Texas 11 grandchildren and 7 greatgrandchildren.
