Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 29 at Woodbine Cemetery for Vera Johns, Artesia, New Mexico. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services. Mrs. Johns, 90, died Friday, December 26, 2003 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Mrs. Johns was born September 19, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois; the daughter of George Vana and Anna Susina Vana. On May 4, 1935 she was married to Charles Chuck Johns in Chicago. They came from there to Artesia in 1941. He preceded her in death August 23, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Charles H. Johns, Jr. in 1960, one brother, and three sisters. She was a homemaker and was actively involved in the family business with Coca Cola Bottling Company. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of DeMolay and Rainbow Girls; Sewing Club; Artesia Story League; Junior Story League sponsor; and was an Avon representative for 26 years. Survivors include a son Jim Johns and wife Sue of Carlsbad, N.M.; a daughter Leslie Dungan and husband Donald of Artesia; grandchildren Heather Evans and husband Doug of Carlsbad, James Johns and wife Donna of Artesia, Brian Johns and wife Amy of Carlsbad, and Lindsay Dungan of Artesia; great-grandchildren Zack, Seth, Abigail, Hannah, Kennedy, Kaylee, Ty and Madison; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
