Velma Hernandez

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, Trinity Temple Assembly for Velma R. Hernandez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Hernandez, 58, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Pastor Bobby Argo will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Velma was born January 15, 1957 in Marfa, Texas; the daughter of Elias S. Herrera and Sita (Romero) Herrera. She was a longtime Artesia resident.

On April 24, 1985 she was married to Arturo B. Hernandez in Artesia.

She was a restaurant cook, loved being with her grandchildren and listening to music.

Survivors include her husband Arturo Hernandez of Artesia; son Shun C. Hernandez of Artesia; daughter Chantel Williams of Artesia; brothers Fred Herrera of El Paso, TX, Elisardo Herrera of Colorado Springs, CO, Eli Herrera of Artesia, and James Herrera of Artesia; sisters Delma Herrera of Albuquerque, NM, JoAnne Duran of Artesia, Diane Lopez of Artesia and Sandra Hollingsworth of Tatum, NM; grandchildren Sierra Hernandez, Nevaeh Hernandez, Aricela Hernandez, Xavian Hernandez, Abrianna Hernandez, Juliann Hernandez and Syriana Williams.
