Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May. 8, at Woodbine Cemetery for Veleria Pearl Smith formerly of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Smith, 99, died Monday, May 5, 2014 at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services.

Veleria was born May 21, 1914 in Rogers, Texas the daughter of Earl Ratliff and Vena Wilson Ratliff.

On February 2, 1936 she was married to Jack C. Smith in Big Spring, Texas. They were longtime Artesia residents. He preceded her in death December 2, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sisters Maurine Mathis and Eloise Rice.

Dutch was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and enjoyed sewing, ceramics, quilting, and reading.

Survivors include her son Jack Smith and wife Susan of Granbury, Texas grandsons Michael Smith and wife Rachel of Lacy, Washington, and Christopher Attel and wife Vickie of Phoenix, AZ and 6 greatgrandchildren.
