Valentin Gomez

Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 18 at Terpening Son Mortuary in Artesia, N.M. for Valentin Gomez of Lake Arthur, New Mexico. Mr. Gomez, 69, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003 in Artesia. Pete Perez will officiate at the services with burial at Lake Arthur Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nicky Moreno, Daniel Moreno, Pete Perez, Jr., Michael Gomez, Richard Gomez, and Joe Gomez, Jr. All grandchildren have been designated as honorary pallbearers. A rosary service is also planned for 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Terpening Son Mortuary. Mr. Gomez was born November 3, 1933 in Chanate, Texas; the son of Pablo Gomez and Anita Gonzales Gomez. On September 22, 1952 he was married to Anastacia Gallegos in Marfa, Texas. He came to Artesia in 1953. He was a farm laborer and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lake Arthur. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a by son Valentin Gomez, Jr. in 1973. Survivors include his wife Anastacia Gomez of the family home; daughters Virgie Perez and husband Pete of Artesia, Lucy Moreno and husband Alfredo of Hagerman, N.M., Elena Hatfield of Casterville, Texas, Maria Gomez of Belen, N.M. and Nina Gomez and husband Larry Saiz of Lake Arthur; sons Joe Gomez and wife Mary of Artesia and Hector Gomez and wife Janie of Loving, N.M.; a sister Eva Garay of Odessa, Texas; a brother Ismael Gomez of Hobbs, N.M.; 26 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
