Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Valda Orosco, Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Orosco, 92, died Thursday, January 2, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas.
Fr. Paul Murtagh, SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd Orosco, Shane Orosco, Chris Fuentes, Jason Fuentes, Andrew Orosco,Donovan Orosco, and Shadow Orosco. Honorary pallbearers will be all other grandchildren.
A rosary is also scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Valda was born April 5, 1921 in Balmorhea, Texas the daughter of Robert F. Lyles and Lucy Dutchover Lyles. She was a longtime area resident.
On Sept. 13, 1937 she was married to Alberto Orosco in Balmorhea, Texas. He preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1997.
She was a hHomemaker and a member of devout member Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Senior Citizen Line Dancers, Senior Olympics Gold Medalist, devoted to her family and friends, great cook specializing in candied yams and pecan pies, and was full of jewels of wisdom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Elisa Lyles, brothers Ben Lyles, Dedrick Lyles, and Robert F. Lyles, Jr., 2 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren.
Survivors include sons Rudy Orosco and wife Baraba of Houston, Texas, Gilbert Orosco of Artesia, Alonzo Orosco of Artesia, and Richard Orosco and wife Judy of Artesia daughter Sylvia Fuentes and husband Juan of Artesia sisters Edith Calderon of El Paso, Texas, Viola Ponzio of League City, Texas, and Ella Eva Johnnye Lyles of Whittier, Calif. 16 grandchildren, 28 greatgrandchildren, 7 greatgreatgrandchildren, and 1 greatgreatgreatgrandchild numerous nieces and nephews.
