Valana Downs

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 22nd at Hermosa Church of Christ for Mrs. Valana Irene Downs of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Downs, 93, died Friday, March 18, 2016 at San Pedro Nursing Facility in Artesia.

Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery following the services. Pallbearers will be her family members.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Monday, March 21st beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Irene was born on March 8th, 1923 to Joseph Stone and Gussie Medina (Watson) Stone in Atoka, Oklahoma.

She was a member of Hermosa Church of Christ and had a passion of music and gardening. She enjoyed getting out and entertaining with her guitar at the Senior Citizen's Center. Her main focus in life thoughout her working years was being a caregiver to those in need and spending time with her family.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Delores Scrimshire; 12 siblings; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her son Covan Downs of Artesia; daughters Barbara Collins of Canyon, Texas, and Lillian Hernderson of Peyton, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
