T.W. Montgomery

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Faith Baptist Church for T. W. Smokey Montgomery, Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Montgomery, 93, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Artesia General Hospital.

Eddie LaRue will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Montgomery, Randall Montgomery, Justin Montgomery, Keith Jackson, Ty Schulz and Larry Ivans.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Smokey was born July 30, 1919 in Parker County, Texas the son of J. A. Montgomery and Emma Lack Montgomery. He came to Artesia in 1940 from Parker County.

On Oct. 25, 1947 he was married to Effie L. Martin in Roswell, NM. She preceded him in death May 17, 2002.

He served in the Unites States Army and proudly served his country during World War II.

He was a Truck Driver for ICX and Dock Foreman delivering freight in Artesia and the surrounding areas until he retired in 1981. He loved spending time with his family, telling jokes, gardening and was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchilren Earl Montgomery and Callie Callaway, soninlaw Bobby Blevins, and 9 brothers.

Survivors include sons Tommy Montgomery and wife Brenda of Artesia, Danny Montgomery and wife Peggy of Pinon, NM daughters Donna Blevins of Artesia, and Linda Jackson of Artesia sister Cloveilla Montgomery Parker of Santa Barbara, Calif. grandchildren Tracy Schulz, Amy Jeter, John Montgomery, Randall Montgomery, Justin Montgomery, Keith Jackson and Jennifer Tabor 21 greatgrandchildren and three greatgreatgrandchildren.
