Memorial services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Hagerman First Baptist Church for Thurman M. Mayberry of Hagerman, New Mexico.
Mr. Mayberry, 89, died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at his home with his two loving sons Don and Ron and their families by his side.
Pastor Herb Gage will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary.
Thurman was born April 23, 1924 in Hillsboro, Texas the son of Landon C. Mayberry and Luanna Bolton Mayberry. He came to the Artesia area in the late 1930s from Texas.
He served his country in the Unites States Army during World War II. His military specialty was a machine gunner. He was honorably discharged in Otsu Honshu Japan in 1945.
On November 20,1947 he was married to the love of his life, Leona B. Deason in Roswell, N.M. She preceded him in death May 4, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents brothers Melvin, L.C. Red, twin brother Herman, and Bob Mayberry and sister Elora King.
He was a heavy equipment operator for the Langenegger Farms. He was later hired as a custodianmaintenance man for the Hagerman School System in 1950 and retired in 1986. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Hagerman.
Survivors include his sons Don Mayberry and wife Erma of Artesia, and Ron Mayberry and wife Michelle of Hagerman grandchildren Donna Mayberry of Artesia, and Landon Mayberry and wife Amanda of Portales, N.M. greatgrandchildren Catlin, Zane, and Addyson sister Jane Ford and husband Joe of Bayfield, Colorado inlaws Jim and Alice Alsup of Artesia, JoAnn Mayberry of Artesia, and Delores Mayberry and many nieces and nephews.
In leau of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hagerman Joy Center or Hagerman First Baptist Church.
His family would like to thank Roswell Gentiva Health Care and the Hagerman Ambulance Service.
