Memorial graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, at Woodbine Cemetery for former Artesia resident Teddy Basil DeMars. A bereavement luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in Artesia. PMr. DeMars, 81, died January 14, 2007 at Verde Medical Center in Cottonwood, Arizona. Cremation has taken place. PTed was born November 13, 1925 in Tulsa, Oklahoma; the son of Basil DeMars and Dorothea Le Sage DeMars. He attended Texas University in the V12 officers training program; served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was later stationed in the Philippines. PHe came to Artesia with his family in 1943 and married Mary Jones Burger in 1952. PHe began working at Navajo Refinery in 1950 and retired as an Operating Engineer in 1987. He was a long time member of First Christian Church and served as a deacon, elder and choir member. PTed moved from Artesia in 2005 to be near his brother and he resided at the Home Sweet Home assisted living facility in Cottonwood. PHe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary in 1985, a sister Louise, and son Jimmy in 1999.
He is survived by his step-daughter Kaye Mathis, of Georgetown, Texas her husband and three children and one nephew and his family. A brother Donald DeMars of Cottonwood, Arizona, wife Anita, their four daughters, 10 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
