Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 23 at Woodbine Cemetery for Sylvia A. Hager of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Hager, 90, died Friday, December 20, 2002 at Artesia General Hospital. Rev. Robbie Boyd will officiate at the services. Honorary pallbearers will be J. B. Grimes, Tom Brown, Jr., Arly Canada, Doug Simer, Cody Teel, Sam Teel, Dean Wilcox, and Gino Wilcox. Mrs. Hager was born October 29, 1912 in Murray, Texas; the daughter of 0. L. Walsh and Rosa Emmaline Pearson Walsh. On May 29, 1931 she was married to Thomas Shirley Hager in Walters, Oklahoma. They came to Artesia in 1942 from Lubbock, Texas. He preceded her in death December 12, 1977. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Patsy Sue Hager; and by two sisters. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Story League; and was a member and past president of the Artesia General Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include sons Barry Hager of Artesia and Tom Hager of Denver, Colo.; a daughter Jan Vermillion and husband Jack of Show Low, Arizona; a brother 0. L. Walsh of Farmington, N.M.; a sister Bernice Golden of Artesia; four grandchildren including Josh Vermillion of Silver City, N.M. and Shannon Vermillion of Las Cruces, N.M.; and eight great-grandchildren including Mandy Vermillion, Ashley Vermillion, and Alexa Vermillion.
