Susie Gomez

Funeral Mass is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Susie (Rodriguez) Gomez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Gomez, 87, passed away Monday, April 24th at her home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

Father Jorge S. Vargas will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary, Tuesday 5 p.m to 7 p.m.

From her birth in Cottonwood, NM, on November 12, 1929 to her death on Monday she nourished people around her with love, faith, and compassion.

She was born on a farm to Basilio and Manuela (Calderon) Rodriguez and was the youngest of 12 children.

At a very young age Susie worked on the farm with her parents and all of her siblings.

It was Susie's smile and beauty that attracted Manuel Gomez to her in 1953. Susie and Manuel married on December 21, 1953 in Artesia.

Left to honor Susie and remember her example of a true lady and mother are Susie's 8 children, 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Susie, a homemaker and an office assistant at the Abo Apartments was a faithful Catholic and member of Our Lady of Grace. Susie enjoyed dancing, camping, exercising and cooking many family favorite dishes.

Susie's husband of 63 years preceded her in death on August 23, 2016, Alicia, her daughter on June 8, 2016 and her parents and 11 siblings.

Survivors include her children Sylvia Carrera (Lalo) of Roswell, NM, Armando Gomez, Basilio Gomez, Maria Mendoza (Luis), Cory Mendoza (Rick) of Artesia, Manuel Gomez (Yvonne) of Hobbs,NM, Connie Avitia (Jorge) of Artesia and Rosie Rader (Stephen) of Lewisville, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Susie's sons-in-law Lalo Carrera, Luis Mendoza, Rick Mendoza, Jorge Avitia, and Stephen Radar.

The Gomez family would like to express their deepest gratitude to her care givers Norma Salcido, Norma Renteria, and Carolina Melendez for all of their help, support and comfort they offered to Susie.
