Susana Chavez

Services are scheduled at 9:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 20 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Susana Florez Chavez, 105 Gage, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Chavez, 97, died Monday, March 18, 2002 at Mission Arch Care Center in Roswell, New Mexico. Fr. Virgilio Flores will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Oscar Molina, Martin Molina, Benny Cruz, Lanny Mahan, Marina Mahan and Omar Gonzales. A Rosary service is also planned for 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Terpening Son Mortuary. Mrs. Chavez was born January 20, 1905 in Ojinaga, Mexico; the daughter of Louis Florez and Elena Vazquez Florez. She came to Artesia in 1911 from Fort Davis, Texas. She was married Sisto B. Chavez in 1921 in Artesia. Her husband preceded her in death March 6, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Paula Cruz; two sisters; five brothers; and a granddaughter Leticia Gonzales. She was a housewife and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church; and was a Headstart grandparent. Survivors include her son Juan F. Chavez and wife Rita of Artesia; grandchildren Susan Molina and husband Abelino of Artesia, Socorro Olivas of Dallas, Texas, Ramon Cruz, Jr. and wife Nancy of Hobbs, N.M., Marina Mahan of Roswell, N.M. and Juanita Hernandez and husband Pete of Artesia; 18 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-great-grandchildren.
