Steve Casares

Funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 24, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Steve Casares of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Casares, 52, died Saturday, August 20, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Fr. Jorge Vargas will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace. Pallbearers will be Bobby Alcocer, Michael Casares, Jeremiah Casares, Paul Casares, Eric Casares, Brandon Hinds, Anthony Ponce, and Danny Losoya.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Steve was born September 29, 1964 in Alamogordo, N.M. to Steven Singleterry Casares and Consuelo (Lira) Casares. He was a long time Artesia resident after moving here in 1980 from Mayhill, N.M.

On June 25, 1983 he was married to Camille Granados in Artesia.

Steve was an owner/operator of his own sand blasting company for the oil fields. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, the Artesia Moose Lodge, and the NRA. Steve was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid reader of Louis L'Amour Books. His love was getting to spend time with and enjoy his family.

Steve was preceded in death by his father; son Steven Joe Casares, Jr.; brother Bennie Casares; and a niece Cassandra Chavarria.

Survivors include his wife Camille of the family home; mother Consuelo Casares of Artesia; sons Michael Casares and wife Tina, Jeremiah Casares, and Bobby Alcocer and wife Alejandra all of Artesia; sisters Connie Hernandez of Artesia, Peggie Baggerly and husband Phillip of Oklahoma, Tammy Ponce and husband Abel of Artesia, Mary Williams and husband Jamie of Las Cruces, N.M., Lola Casares of Artesia, Barbara Casares of Artesia, and Julie Hinds and husband Roy of Roswell, N.M.; brothers Rodrigo Lira and wife Chuy of Artesia, Paul Casares of Carlsbad, N.M., and Eric Casares of Roswell; grandchildren Steven Ace Casares and Michael Casares.
