Stephen Houghtaling

A memorial mass is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, at St. Anthonys Catholic Church for Stephen Norrish Houghtaling of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Houghtaling, 39, died Sunday, October 19, 2014.

Fr. Francis Lazer will officiate at the services with burial of the cremated remains at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Davis, Colby Smith, Presli SmithHoughtaling, Eddy Houghtaling,Clifford Ben Estavillo, Randy Houghtaling, Eric Gunderson, Robbie Houghtaling, and Timmy Houghtaling.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation scheduled. A rosary is also scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Friday at St. Anthonys Church.

Stephen was born March 8, 1975 in Artesia, New Mexico the son of Harold Houghtaling, Jr. and Teresa Crausby Schmid. He was a lifelong Artesia resident.

On Dec. 18, 1999 he was married to Sara Andrade in Artesia.

Stephen was a Hotshot Driver for Pressure Services, LLC. He was a member of Saint Anthonys Catholic Church, N.R.A., a Volunteer FireFighter with Cottonwood Fire Deptment, Eddy County Sheriffs Reserve, and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed being outdoors whether he was farming or hunting. Stephen was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and grandson and loved spending time with his kids and family.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Lettie and Howard Crausby, Harold and Joyce Houghtaling, and Joyce V. Nelson.

Survivors include his wife Sara Houghtaling of Artesia mother Teresa Schmid husband Roland of Artesia father Harold Houghtaling, Jr. wife Ann of Artesia sons Luke Allen Davis of Artesia, and Colby Lane Smith of Artesia daughter Presli Elizabeth SmithHoughtaling of Artesia brother Eddy Houghtaling and wife Carrie of Lake Arthur, N.M. grandson Jude Scott Davis of North Dakota grandfather Morgan Nelson of Roswell, N.M. and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
