Socorro Garay

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, September 10, at Trinity Temple Assembly of God for Socorro Leyva Garay of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Garay, 91, died September 6, 2021 at Artesia General Hospital.

Pastor Larry Rolan will officiate at the services. Burial will follow the services at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christian Nielsen, Edwin Leyva, Nate Leyva, Brandon Knowlton, Manuel Guillen, Christian Carrera, and Carlitos Valnezuela.

Socorro was born December 13, 1929 in Ojinaga, Mexico; the daughter of Calletano Leyva and Matilde Navarrette Leyva

She was married to Luis Garay in 1956. He preceded her in death in November 1978.

Socorro was a hard worker and enjoyed cooking, baking, canning foods, gardening and just being outside. She had a heart for people with endless love taking care of many children through the years. She taught her children to never give up.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Calletano, Epimenio, Alfonso and Trine, and sisters Manuela Zepeda and Luisa Nunez.

Survivors include her daughters Guadalupe Matta and Maria Close; granddaughters Adrienne Leyva and husband Edwin, and Erica Nielsen and husband Christian; great-grandchildren Jayden, Nate, Wesley, Denny and Christopher.
