Silvestre Montes

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 11 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Silvestre Montes of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Montes, 89, died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Artesia General Hospital.

Fr. Brian Guerrini, SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricki Baeza, Roque Chavarria, Cruz Natividad, Sabas Natividad, Manuel Valles, and Lalo Valles.

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Grace Tuesday beginning at 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be at the church Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Silvestre was born December 31, 1922 in Chihuahua, Mexico the son of Martin Montes and Delfina Jimenez Montes. He came to Artesia in 1963 from Mexico.

In 1945 he was married to Carmen Valles in Mexico. She preceded him in death November 12, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents, some siblings, and a son Rodrigo Montes.

He was a farm laborer and a member of Our Lady of Grace.

Survivors include his daughters Alicia Chavarria and husband Roque of Artesia, and Lupe Granados of Artesia sons Abelardo Montes and wife Mary of Artesia, and Martin Montes of Artesia sister Maria De Jesus Hidalgo of Anthony, New Mexico brother Frederico Montes of Anthony 15 grandchildren 23 greatgrandchildren and 4 greatgreatgrandchildren.
