Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, at the Hagerman Cemetery for Shirley Thornburg Robinson of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Robinson, 80, died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Artesia General Hospital. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services. Mrs. Robinson was born August 15, 1927 in Denver, Colorado; the daughter of Lawrence B. Daugherty and Mary Anna Groom Daugherty. She came to Artesia in 1950 from Dallas, Texas. In 1954 she was married to Paul V. Russel in Socorro, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1974. In 1976 she married Paul Robinson in Roswell, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a step-father. Mrs. Robinson was a graduate of Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, and went on to get her Masters degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M. She was a Public School Teacher where she taught one year in Lake Arthur, N.M. and 30 years in Artesia. After retiring she traveled extensively and devoted herself to various charitable causes including the Red Cross Volunteer Disaster Workers where she was able to travel to several states and Puerto Rico to assist in disasters in those areas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the retired Teachers Association, and was an Ombudsman at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Red Cross, First United Methodist Church of Artesia, or charity of your choice.
