Shirley Robinson

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, at Lake Arthur Baptist Church for Shirley Mae Robinson, Lake Arthur, New Mexico.

Mrs. Robinson, 73, died Monday, June 12, 2006 at her home. Pastor Mike Barron will officiate at the services with burial at Lake Arthur Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lucas Smith, Timothy Smith, Caleb Smith, Gary Thomas, Earl Robinson, Eric Robinson, Garrett Woods, and Randall Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Clark, Wendell Best, Joshua Smith, Mathew Thomas, Lucas J. Thomas, and Ryan Thomas.

Mrs. Robinson was born November 20, 1932 in a farm house in Mesa near Floyd, N.M.; the daughter of James Walter Thomas and Eliza Jane Davis Thomas.

On Nov. 22, 1952 she was married to Delbert R. Robinson in Houston, Texas. She came to this area in 1953.

She was a secretary and bookkeeper for the farm and business, a substitute teacher for the Lake Arthur Schools and a school bus driver. She was a member of Lake Arthur Baptist Church and the Yucca Porcelain Art Club in Roswell. In earlier years she was a member of Cottonwood Extension Club, Lake Arthur 4H Club, Cheerleader sponsor, FHA Chapter mother, avid amateur photographer and freelance newspaper columnist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother James M. Thomas and a sister Nell Finley.

Survivors include her husband Delbert Robinson of the family home; sons Robbie L. Robinson and wife Melodia of Houston, Texas, and Ricky L. Robinson and wife Rebecca of Lake Arthur; daughters Terry Smith and husband Larry of Artesia, Kathy Richardson and husband Keith of Artesia, Vicki K. Clark and husband Burney of Roswell, N.M., and Debbie Kezar and husband Fred of Lake Arthur; sister Betty Jo Russell of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren Robbie L. Robinson, Dustin P. Robinson of Hobbs, NM Lucas K. Smith, Tim L. Smith, Caleb Smith, Jillian N. Smith, Kimberly D. Richardson of all of Artesia, Anne E. Clark and Thomas D. Clark of Roswell; and a great-grandson Luke H. Robinson of Hobbs, N.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Arthur Baptist Church, Yucca Porcelain Arts Club in Roswell, Veterans organizations, Historical Society, or any local Childrens Library.
