Sharon Smith

Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, at Woodbine Cemetery for Sharon Gayle Smith of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Smith, 65, died Monday, October 6, 2008 at Artesia General Hospital. Pastor Steve Ormord will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Sammy Reno, Carl Wilson, Danny Carter, Dale Laman, Ross Horner, Robbie Houghtaling, Jimmy Liles, and Mitch Hibbard. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her PVT family and close friends. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mrs. Smith was born July 17, 1943 in Roswell, New Mexico; the daughter of Doyle Belvin and Ruby Griffin Belvin. On February 10, 1962 she was married to James E. Smith in Juarez, Mexico. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1997. She later married Steve Bowman on November 23, 2007 in Artesia. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother Jim D. Belvin. Sharon was a lifelong resident of the Artesia area. She worked for PVT as a Technical Support personnel before retiring in 2007. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her husband Steve Bowman of the family home; sons Jimmy Smith and wife Mary of Artesia, and John D. Smith and wife Renee of Carlsbad, N.M.; sisters Wanda Johnson of Graham, Texas, and Peggy Gordon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brothers Stan Belvin of Houston, Texas, Bill Belvin of Albuquerque, N.M., and Richard Belvin of Odessa, Texas; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Memorial contribution may be made to the Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
