Sharon Dudley

November 14, 1936 — November 24, 2003

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 28, 2003 at the First Baptist Church, 308 W. Grand, Artesia, N.M. for Sharon Dudley, age 67. The officiating pastor will be Rick Sullivan. Sharon was born November 14, 1936 in Amarillo, Texas to Hugh G. and Alberta Porterfield. Her father and mother preceded her in death. Sharon died on Monday, November 24, 2003, in her home in Artesia. Formerly of Texas, Sharon has been a resident of Artesia for 28 years. During these years in Artesia, she was the originator of the local American Needlepoint Guild and the local Kindermusik program for children. Mrs. Dudley was a member of the First Baptist Church in Artesia. She was active in the church, where she taught first and second grade Sunday School and sang in the sanctuary choir. Sharon graduated from Texas Tech University in 1960. She has taken advanced courses at West Texas A and M, Texas A and I, Eastern New Mexico University, BYU, University of Denver and UNM. She taught school in Amarillo, Texas; Midwest City, Oklahoma; Calallen, Texas; Corpus Christi, Texas; and Artesia, New Mexico where she served as a volunteer music teacher at Grand Heights for 8 years. In the 19 years she taught, she was a teacher of home economics, music, history, science and third grade. Sharon was a member of the following organizations. Alpha Phi National Fraternity; Mu Phi Epsilon; Phi Upsilon Omicron; Altrusa; the American Needlepoint Guild; Community Bible Study; and the Artesia Community Chorale. Survivors include her husband, Leon G. Dudley of the home; a daughter, Kristi J. Lott of Kearns, Utah; a son, Hugh Carter Dudley of Las Vegas, Nevada; 3 sisters, Diane Short of Cordova, Tennessee; Jeanine Rankin of Collierville, Tennessee; and Paula Porterfield of Amarillo, Texas; 3 grandchildren and numerous other relatives. There will be no pallbearers as Sharon has donated her body to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for the Advancement of medical sciences teaching and study.
