Selso Martinez

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Selso Porras Martinez, 807 W. Cleveland Ave., Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Martinez, 94, died Friday, February 3, 2012 at his home.

A rosary is also scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 12 p.m. Monday.

Burial will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jason Segura, Jaime Segura, Steven Martinez, Lauterio Martinez, Selso Martinez Jr., and Robert Sanchez Jr.

Selso was born July 28, 1917 in Ruidosa, Texas the son of Lucio Martinez and Ysidra Porras Martinez. He came to Artesia in the 1950s from Mexico.

In 1952 he was married to Eloisa Rodriguez in Barrancos, Mexico.

He was a farm laborer and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife Eloisa Martinez of Artesia sons Selso Martinez Jr. of Roswell, NM, and Lauterio Martinez of Artesia daughter Ramona Segura of Artesia sister Maria Melendrez of Ojinaga, Mexico 6 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.
