Services are scheduled at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May. 4, at First Baptist Church for Savannah Carpenter Derrick, 2512 W. Quay Ave., Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Derrick, 90, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at her home.
David Brunson will officiate at the services with burial at Hagerman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Charlie Williams, Cody Williams, Fred Johnson, Tuffy Barnett, Ronny Derrick, and Brian Brunson.
Savannah was born February 14, 1923 in Delwin, Texas the daughter of Chester Carpenter and Lorene Barton Carpenter. She an area resident since 1937.
On June 13, 1941 she was married to Vernon Derrick in Dexter, NM. He preceded her in death Dec. 17, 1987.
Vernon and Savannah lived their life and raised their kids on ranches in Eastern New Mexico starting with the Turkey Track where they lived for 25 years. Their life centered around kids, theirs and lots of other peoples, family and good horses. She had a good long life and enjoyed nearly every minute of it. She was known all over the Pecos Valley for her hot rolls and krautburgers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Leory, Bill, Elwood and Dan, grandson Bo, and soninlaw Fred Funk.
She is survived by all six of her children, son Wayne Derrick and wife Dana of Maljamar daughters Brenda Brunson and husband David of Artesia, Barbara DerrickAskwith and husband Andrew of Wales and Artesia, Charlotte Buchanan and husband Jerry of Pietown, Joan Wilson of Hereford, Texas, and Verna Funk of Artesia 23 grandchildren, 38 greatgrandchildren and 6 greatgreatgrandchildren brother C.A. Carpenter of Hobbs sisters Day Hodge of Carlsbad, Bonnie Derrick of Hope and Idell Burnett of Titusville, Pennsylvania.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Vista Care Hospice 400 N. Pennsylvania, Roswell, N.M. 88201 or the charity of your choice.
