Salvador De La O Granado, aka "Chava", age 86 of Atoka, NM was called to heaven on Thursday, July 30 in the town of Artesia, NM after living a long healthy God blessed life.
Salvador was born in Presidio, TX on April 29, 1929 to Cipriano and Consuelo Granado. In 1955, Salvador attended a girls basketball game in Loving, NM and spotted the woman he would marry one year later, Arselia Gomez. She does not recall scoring any points that day but he obviously did. June 20th marked their 60th year of marriage.
Salvador was a painter by trade and was well respected among his peers and was in frequent demand for his services around town. He loved to hunt and fish and passed that love of the outdoors on to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed sports and coached pee wee baseball, little league and Babe Ruth. He was an avid sports fan and cheered his kids, grandkids, Bulldogs and the Dallas Cowboys. Many Sundays were spent cheering or hissing at his beloved Cowboys. He loved horses and owned many throughout his lifetime.
Survivors include his wife Arselia Granado of Artesia; son Mike Granado and wife Cori of Artesia, son Donny Granado of Gilbert, AZ; 4 grandchildren Kristen Collins, Michael Granado, Rachel Cox and Adan Granado, 4 great-grandchildren Kambry Collins and Chase Collins,Carder Cox and Colten Cox; sisters Belen Marquez and Maggie Montoya both of Espanola, NM and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Salvador was preceded in death by brothers Frank Granado of Jal, NM, Saturnino Acosta of Artesia, Jose Granado of Artesia, and sisters Maria Cortez and Pascuala Granado, both of Artesia.
Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be at the church on Monday at 9:30 am.
