On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, Ryan Keim, loving son and cherished friend, passed away at University Medical Center in Lubbock at the age of 29.
Viewing will be Tuesday, September 3 from 12pm to 8pm at Terpening & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church Wednesday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m with Pastor Ty Houghtaling officiating and burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers are Alejo Cortez, Dallas Bollema, Cilio Hernandez, Oni Ruiz, Caleb Samora, Caylan Hutson, Adon Esquibel, and Andrew Chavarria. Honorary pallbearers are all the Rockstar Packing crew.
Ryan was born on June 15, 1990 in Artesia, New Mexico to Sonja Cortez and Randy Keim.
Ryan attended school in Artesia and graduated from Artesia High School in May of 2009. While in school, Ryan played many different sports, but his passion was basketball. He flourished on the basketball court, and his love of the game resonated through his determination to win. His infectious smile and sense of humor will be sorely missed by many. He excelled academically and was an active member of honor society.
After graduation, he attended classes at Eastern New Mexico University. Ryan moved to Carlsbad in 2014, and became the crew lead at Titan Lansing, In 2017 Ryan joined the family business as an equipment operator at Rockstar Packing L.L.C. His hard work and dedication to his job made him a vital part of the Rockstar company.
His many hobbies were playing sports, fishing, working in the garage with his dad, playing in the Gus Macker and the Hike-It Spike-It. He loved to spend time with his family and friends and loved playing with the younger kids. He had a kind and compassionate spirit and was always available to help others. He was a gift from God to his mother and was her entire world.
Ryan was preceded in death by his late grandfather Alejo Cortez, great-great grandmother Manuela Leyva, and baby cousin Kalynne Flores.
He is survived by his parents Sonja Johnson and husband Alan of Artesia, and Randy Keim and wife Jennifer of Carlsbad. Other survivors include grandparents Maria and Ed Gomez of Artesia and Dale and Sharon Johnson of Carlsbad, brothers Ross and Bret Johnson, aunt and uncles Steve Cortez, Gracie Tesillo, and Tod and Julie Duffin, and cousins Alejo Cortez, Deserii and Michael Mondragon.
