Services are scheduled at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, Dec. 31 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church for Ruth Askren Watson. Mrs. Watson, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died on December 27, 2003 in Roswell. Father Herb Robbins will officiate at the services with interment at Woodbine Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Carper, David Van
er, Jerry Lossee, Fred A. Watson, Neil B. Linnell and Mike Adams. Mrs. Watson was born in Bolivar, Missouri, on April 22, 1910 to Oscar O. Askren and Florence Franklin Askren and was raised in Roswell. She attended the University of New Mexico, where she met Neil B. Watson. She and Neil were married in 1929 and moved to Artesia in 1938, where she was an active member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church and the Republican Womens Club. Ruth was known for her excellent cooking, her wonderful rose garden, her friendly smile and beautiful blue eyes, and was always willing to share a cup of coffee and a story with her friends and neighbors. She is survived by two sisters, Ottolee McKee of Texas and Ann Flesh and husband Royal, of St. Louis, Missouri; one daughter, Martha Linnell and husband Bob, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; one daughter-in-law, Pat Watson, of Artesia; three grandchildren, Patti Watson Leake and husband Patrick, and Fred A. Watson, all of Albuquerque; and Neil Linnell and wife, Jennifer, of Winston-Salem; and one great- granddaughter, Abbey Linnell of Winston-Salem. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Neil B. Watson, and her son, Fred A. Watson, both of Artesia. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Pauls Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1308, Artesia NM 88211.
