Services are scheduled at 4:00 P.M. Friday, June 20 at First United Methodist Church in Artesia, N.M. for longtime Artesia resident Ruth Alene Durbin of Weatherford, Texas. Mrs. Durbin, 80, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 in Weatherford. Roby Zumwalt and Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia. Mrs. Durbin was born June 23, 1922 in Mineral Wells, Texas; the daughter of Winford Irvin Owen and Ruth Alma Wynn Owen. She came to Artesia in 1939 and graduated from Artesia High School in 1940. In 1940, she was married to Orville V. Rooster Durbin in Artesia. He preceded her in death January 23, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and by one brother and one sister. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Edna Carper, Raymond Lamb and W. W. Byers and was a member of First United Methodist Church; a Lifetime Masters Bridge player; and a member of the Good Sam R.V. Club. Survivors include her daughter Sandra D. Smith of Brownwood, Texas; a son Michael Larry Durbin of Phoenix, Arizona; a brother Weldon Owen; grandchildren Deborah Stewart of Weatherford, Barton D. Smith of Gatesville, Texas, Tracy L. Smith of Sedan, Kansas, Dee Dee Brauer of Clearwater, Fla. and Denice Durbin of Phoenix; and ten great-grandchildren.
