Services are scheduled for 10 am Thursday, April 21, at Faith Baptist Church for Ruby Irene Hokett of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Hokett departed this world and arrived at her final destination in the arms of Jesus April 14, 2022" in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
We say bon voyage one last time on April 21, 2022. Michael Elliot will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 2 to 6 pm on Wednesday, April 20th.
Irene was born on May 14, 1944 in Artesia, NM ; the daughter of Claude Eston Nivens and Ruby Dean Reed Nivens.
Irene was the owner and operator of Busy Bee Travel Agency for 39 years. She started Busy Bee in 1983 while also operating the local Montgomery Ward franchise. Before that, she worked at and eventually became the first female manager of Goodyear Tire until retiring in 1981. She took great pride in this and her work in general. If you ran into Irene somewhere, she would always tell you she's "busy as a bee". And she was. Even if things were slow, she was ALWAYS making herself busy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law Kenneth Foster.
Survivors include her son Kevin Hokett and wife Tiffany; daughter Danielle Husselman and husband David; brothers Johnny Nivens and Dennis Nivens; sisters Nelva Johnson and Shirley Foster; grandchildren Danessa Dudley, Tyler Dudley, Demrie Denson, Destiny Todd, Coly Hokett, Shanna Liles, Baylee Miller, and Braydon Brooks; great grandchildren Brody Todd, Brance Todd, Brinlee Todd, Tryston Hokett, Tresley Hokett, Beckham Liles, Channing Liles, Mikah Vaughn, Ryker Vaughn, and Cohen Dudley; and also by her longtime friend Irvin Smith.
Pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren.
