Graveside services are scheduled for 10 am, Friday, March 5, 2021 at Twin Oaks Cemetery in Artesia, NM for Roy O. Shoemaker of Mayhill, NM.
Mr. Roy O. Shoemaker, 80, died February 26, 2021 at Mayhill, NM.
Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 3 pm to 6 pm on Thursday.
Roy was born July 29, 1940 in Brownfield, TX to David T. Shoemaker and Velma F. Springer Shoemaker. He was blessed in 1951 when his beloved stepmother Martha Chavez came into his life. He spent his childhood in Clovis, Ft. Sumner and Artesia, NM but, he always considered his grandpa Shoemaker's farm in Canyon Valley, TX as home.
He graduated from Artesia High School in 1959. He started working at Fletcher Electric while he was in high school which began his lifelong career as an electrician. He was a licensed journeyman working for K&S Electric and Central Valley Electric in Artesia, NM and Parker Motor Repair in Denver City, TX.
On October 22, 1965 he married Sue Ann Engle in Brooksville, FL. She was the love of his life for the last 55+ years. They were blessed with 4 wonderful children. Roy and Sue made their first home on the hill at Riverside before transferring to Denver City, TX. There he enjoyed life volunteering for the fire department and practicing his hobbies of welding and circle track racing. During his time in Denver City, TX he made many lifelong friends. In July of 1975 he returned to Artesia, NM upon his father's death and filled his job at Central Valley Electric, retiring in 2006 to Mayhill, NM. As those who knew him will attest retirement was the last thing from his mind. His first priority when moving to Mayhill, NM was to build a big shop where he could work on his many projects from building trailers, making wood signs and benches and fixing anything that was broken. He spent a lot of his time riding his Mule around the Robin Hood subdivision checking up on the neighbors and working on the water system. He became the Assistant Water Master for a time before taking over as Water Master after which he continued to help out searching for and fixing water leaks. He had just finished welding up his last trailer a couple of weeks before hanging up his gloves.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents David, Velma and Martha, sister Francis Scholl and brother James Shoemaker.
Survivors are his wife Sue Ann, sons Roy David and Ralph and wife Laurie Shoemaker, daughters Martha and husband Cory McCarrell and Molly and husband Danny Juarez, grandchildren Dr. Easton McCarrell and girlfriend Megahan Harrison, Haegan McCarrell, Darian and husband Hondo Wood, Dillon Juarez, Danyon Juarez and fiance Jesse Solano, and Sierra Shoemaker, great grand children Bristol, Jayden and Jonas.
