Roy Richardson

Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 13 at First United Methodist Church for Roy A. Richardson, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Richardson, 92, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at his home. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Aaron, George Spinks, Andrew Spinks, Stanley Spinks, Ronnie Jackson, and Royce Pearson. Artesia Lions Club members will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Richardson was born October 5, 1911 in Rockwood, Texas; the son of Marvin Allen Richardson and Grace Milligan Richardson. On June 12, 1938 he was married to Era Hill in Santa Anna, Texas. They came to Artesia in 1949. His wife preceded him in death April 19, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister Elizabeth Dudley; and by brothers Cecil Richardson, Eugene Richardson, and J. P. Richardson. He attended Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas and graduated from the Anderson School of Operations and Engineering, Los Angeles, Calif. He was also a graduate of the Royal Air Force School Salisbury, Wiltshire England and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Mr. Richardson was a banker for 60 years; working for First National Bank in Santa Anna, Texas and was executive vice-president and director or Peoples State Bank and Western Bank in Artesia. He has served as director and treasurer of the Bank Administration Institute, Sunland Chapter; president of Group Three of the New Mexico Bankers Association, where he also served as treasurer and as a member of the association's agriculture committee. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; life member and former president of Artesia Downtown Lions Club; and was member of the Masonic Lodge and the Artesia Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include sisters Joyce Cooper of Snyder, Texas, Loyce Phenix of Mission, Texas, and Edith Jennings of San Angelo, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
