A memorial graveside service is scheduled for 10 AM Friday, July 29, 2022, at Woodbine Cemetery for beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Ronald Dale Garthwaite of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Garthwaite, 85, died on July 19, 2022, at his home in Artesia surrounded by loved ones.
Wayne Derrick will officiate at the services. Cremation will take place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Ronald was born on October 9, 1936, in Lancaster, Wisconsin; the son of Lester Garthwaite and Margarite Mason. He joined the US Marines. After his discharge, he moved to California where he met his beloved wife, Patricia Gregory. They married in 1961 in California and started their family. In 1971, they moved to Artesia, NM, and raised their children there.
Ronald started his career as a traveling salesman and loved it. In 1971, he worked for Tex Tan Saddles and remained there for several years. Then, he moved to Acme Boot Company and worked there for a few years. In 1982, he made his final shift to Bennie's Western Wear where he worked for the last 40 years.
"Ron" was known for speaking his mind. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He was a very dedicated, hard-working man that loved his family dearly. Although he traveled much of the time when his children were growing up, he strived to be there for them. He planned a special weekend for each child to spend with him so they could have his undivided attention. When he became an inside salesman, he quickly became a regular face at all his grandchildren's sporting, school, and agricultural events. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and had a great sense of humor.
Ron's last request to his loved ones would be: Mourn but not too long; move on. Don't dwell on the past. Live your life and keep moving forward. Take care of your families and remember what I taught you. I love you and remember, this is not goodbye, it's just "See you later".
A special thank you to all those who cared for Ronald and his family. J & J Homecare, Kindred, Lisa Garthwaite, and his extended family at Bennie's Western Wear.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
