Rodney Matthews

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13 at Terpening & Son Mortuary Chapel for Rodney Haskell Matthews of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Matthews, 73, passed away on January 9, 2018 at his home.

Leroy Howard will officiate at the service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Rodney was born on June 5, 1944 in Artesia; the son of Henry Haskell Matthews and Vesta Lee (Bonham) Matthews.

He was a Correctional Officer for the Department of Corrections and a member of Lakeood Community Church. He loved to shop, was an avid gun and knife collector, a survivalist and enjoyed donating to charities.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters JoAnn Matthews and Glenda Rae Estes and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include his son Benjamin Haskell Matthews of Moore, O.K.; daughters Stephanie Hair of Stratford, O.K. and Melisa Stanley of Abbeville, L.A.; brother Ronald Matthews of Artesia; sister Billie Jean Henderson of Paint Rock, T.X.; very dear longtime friend Lucille Atcherson; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
