Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Roberto Briseno of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Briseno, 91, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at his sons home in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Fr. Miguel Briseno, OFM Conv. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Abran Briseno, Alejandro Briseno, Jesus Chuy Martinez, Erica C. Barron, Joshua Briseno, Martin Briseno, Davy Briseno, Jose Martinez, Carlos Briseno,Isaiah Chavez.
Visitation will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Friday beginning at 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Roberto was born June 7, 1923 in Dayton, New Mexico the son of Jesus Briseno and Estanislada Navarrete Briseno. He was a longtime Artesia resident.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, and the Korean conflict.
On July 17, 1955 he was married to Juanita Gomez in Artesia. She preceded him in death June 18, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents sister Monica Chavez 5 half siblings 2 brothers daughter Teresa Briseno son Martin Javier Briseno and a soninlaw Manuel Chavez.
Roberto received his Diploma on November 11, 2009. He was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and served on the Finance Counsil, and also a member of St. Albert Newman Center in Las Cruces, president and treasurer of the Holy Name Society, a member of Los Nortenos Band, coach for Little League, guitarist, and choir director of Coro Guadalupano, Artesia City Representative from 1958 to 1988 served as Mayor Pro Tem several times beginning on October 13, 1982, and a member of the Advisory Council for the Senior Center in Artesia.
Survivors include his daughter Celina Aguirre and husband Domingo of Artesia 5 sons David Roberto Briseno and wife Margaret of Clovis, N.M., Miguel Eduardo Briseno of El Paso, Texas, Leonel Fabian Briseno of Las Cruces, Adrian Joel Briseno of Las Cruces, and Felipe Abel Briseno and wife Ida of Las Cruces brother Prudencio Briseno of Artesia 14 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.
