Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Terpening Son Chapel for Robert Alan Calvert, Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Calvert, 67, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Artesia General Hospital.
David Brunson will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Pace, Joe Pemberton, Jim Runyan, Tom Anderson, Myron Bovkoon, Jason Shirey, Dennis Tidwell, Paul Laughlin, Robert Johnson, Tom Johnson, Fred Beickel, Ed Burrows, June Tulk, Lonnie Herrera, James Mansell, Weldon Hensley, and Bobby West.
Visitation will at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Robert was born April 22, 1945 in Iraan, Texas the son of Oland Pinkie Vester Calvert and Iona Faye Idell Calvert. He came to Artesia in 1958 from Strawn, Texas, with his parents. They preceded him in death.
He was a Vietnam Vet and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Tripoli. He was stationed in the Phillipines and also served in Vietnam.
Calvert worked as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent, a U.S. Customs Inspector, a U.S. Customs Patrol Officer, a National Narcotics Border Interdiction System Officer, and retired as a U.S. Customs Air Interdiction Officer. He received many, many awards for his service such as Special Achievement Awards, Special Service Awards, and awards for Outstanding Enthusiasm, Dedication and Initiative for narcotic and jewelry seizures. He was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was also awarded the Medal of Valor in 1987.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 41 years Ruth Ann Calvert of Artesia and his beloved little dog Margaret.
