Robert "Bob" Burgess

Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at Trinity Temple Assembly of God for Robert Neal Burgess, Artesia, New Mexico. Johnny Elliott and Ronnie Williams will officiate at the services with burial to be at 10 a.m. Monday July 20, 2015 at Woodbine Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jantzan Martin, Jaron Martin, Jeffrey Pettit, Matt Pettit, David Lewis and Raul Rodriguez.
Viewing will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary on Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and also on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The family will be present for visitation on Friday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Burgess, 79, went home to his Lord suddenly on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Artesia General Hospital, after complications of diabetes and kidney failure.
Robert was born December 31, 1935 in Amarillo, Texas; the son of Robert Monroe Burgess and Jewel Mae (Cox) Burgess. On June 1, 1957 he was married to Gaylene Pettit in Canyon, Texas. He came to Artesia in Jan. 1964 from Las Cruces, NM.
Robert received BA degree in Agribusiness from WTSU in Canyon, TX. After receiving his degree Robert began a career with SIC Financial working in Lovington, Las Cruces, and then in Artesia. In 1966 Robert and Gaylene formed a partnership with Bob and Mary Hendrickson acquiring Artesia Ford Sales. Robert and Bob maintained ownership to present day and have developed a close friendship as well as a successful business together. He was a member of Harvest Fellowship and of the Assembly of God faith. Also Robert was a member Artesia Downtown Lion's Club, Emmaus, Artesia Trailblazers, Artesia Chamber of Commerce, past member Artesia School Board and has served as a Board Member of Western Bank for many years. He was dedicated to his God, his family and his job. He was a generous and kindhearted man with a heart for missions, having sent and supported many missionaries throughout the world. He loved to travel and took many family trips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Jay Martin, three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife Gaylene Burgess of Artesia; daughters Jillana Burgess Plummer and husband Bob of Artesia, and Jalane Brown and husband Phil of La Mirada, Calif.; son Robbie Burgess and wife Tina of Artesia; 7 grandchildren Jantzan Martin and wife Tiffany, Jaron Martin, Brittney Burgess, Janessa Burgess, Rick Plummer, Robert Plummer and wife Marsha, and Wes Brown and wife Tifynee; 4 great-grandchildren Jace Martin, and Elizabeth, Abigail and Jackson Brown.
