Services are scheduled for 10 am Friday, November 11 at First Baptist Church for Rita D. Winters of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Winters, 64, died on November 5, 2022 in Lubbock, Texas.
Nolan Frederick will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rick Owens, Matteo DoPorto, Benjamin Flores, Aaron Bowen, Jared Bowen, Scott DeHoyos, Stephen Johnston, and Stuart Johnston. Honorary pallbearers are her nephews. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 2-6 pm on Thursday.
Rita was born on November 18, 1957 in Artesia; the daughter of Ricardo DeHoyos and Refugia Dominguez DeHoyos. She was a true middle child being number 7 of 13 children. She graduated from Artesia High School in 1976 were she was active in Office Education and DECA.
After graduating, Rita married her grade school sweetheart, Kenneth Harcrow. Kenneth and Rita went on to have one child, Chad L. Harcrow in 1977. Kenneth preceded Rita in death in 1979.
In 1982, she married Tim Winters after meeting him while working for Halliburton. Rita and Tim had two girls, Chelsea and Candace.
Rita worked for Chandler's and House of Art Jewelers from 1974 to 1989. Having a passion for youth, she started Rita's Daycare in 1989. She had a true talent with children and a deep seeded love for Special Needs children.
Her family was her life, she was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She would make every event in their life a priority and took pride in helping prepare each of her grandkids for Kindergarten. She loved life, always laughing and smiling. She was the true "Hub" of the wheel that drove family events. Rita had a talent for decorating and always made the holidays so special for everyone. She was a devoted volunteer for the Catalyst Children's ministry for the past 7 years. She impacted so many people in her short life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her nephew, Isaiah DeHoyos, her brothers-in-law, Johnny Flores and Colin Lathrop, her sister-in-law, Lisa DeHoyos, and her first husband Kenneth Harcrow.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son Chad Harcrow and wife Megan; daughters Chelsea Frederick and husband Nolan, Candace Greathouse and husband Kyle; brothers Ricardo DeHoyos Jr., Tommy DeHoyos and Anita, David DeHoyos and Terri, Rudy DeHoyos and Pam, Danny DeHoyos, and Albert DeHoyos and Yolanda; sisters Lily Flores, Ramona Haskins and Mike, Lupe DoPorto and Ronnie, Delma Salsberry and Roy, Diana Lathrop and Bob Dear, and Lucy Gallegos and Ernie; grandchildren Kaelyn Greathouse, Haden Harcrow, Avery Frederick, Mia Harcrow, Kai Greathouse, Cason Frederick, Hannah Harcrow, Easton Frederick, and Mason Harcrow; also by many nieces and nephews.
