Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, at First Baptist Church for Rita Florene Chambers, 2725 N. Pennsylvania, Roswell, New Mexico.
Mrs. Chambers, 86, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 after a long and brave battle with Alzheimers.
Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Vega, Vern Bolton, Steve Willard, Ken Simons, Robert Duncan, and Chad Hodge. Honorary pallbearers will be John Simons, Glen Donaldson, Jimmy Don Graham, Cooper Henderson, and Lyle Terpening.
Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.
The family will be receiving friends at 1915 Villa Drive.
Rita was born April 4, 1926 in Des Plaines, Illinois the daughter of Marshall L. Pack and Nellie Miller Pack. She came to Artesia in 1944 from Illinois.
On Feb. 11, 1945 she was married to Orville U. Chambers in Artesia. He preceded her in death April 1, 2006.
She was a secretary and homemaker. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, worked with Meals on Wheels, volunteered for Artesia Good Samaritan and played the piano for Sunday School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Gloria Jean Hobbs, and a brother Bob Pack.
Survivors include son Robert M. Chambers of Artesia daughter Leta Scott of Artesia sistersinlaw Joan Pack, and Roberta Havens grandchildren Justin Hobbs, Sara Scott, Codey Scott and Sunny Lewis greatgrandchildren Morgan Lewis, Tyler Kelley and Rowan Hobbs and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association or Vista Care Hospice.
