Ricky Martin

Memorial services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, at First Baptist Church for Rick E. Martin of Artesia, New Mexico. PMr. Martin, 43, died Thursday, August 23, 2007 in Artesia. PTerry Haake will officiate at the services. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Smoot, Randy Pitts, Michael Pitts, Milton Menefee, Richard Martinez, Von Weddige, Pat Huggins, Richard Williams, and his FLETC, Border Patrol, and New Mexico State Police family. PCremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening amp; Son Mortuary. PMr. Martin was born October 2, 1963 in Aberdeen, Mississippi; the son of Leon and Gloria Jean Odom Martin. PMr. Martin served his country in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. In 1991 Rick moved to Artesia, New Mexico after joining the New Mexico State Police. In 1999, Rick began his career with Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and was serving as a Branch Chief at the time of his death. POn May 18, 1997 he was married to Leann Wood Avery in Las Vegas, Nevada. PHe was a physical fitness enthusiast, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and friends. He took pleasure in the remodeling of his home. He was of the Baptist faith. PSurvivors include his wife Leann of the family home; daughters Breeann Martin of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Sydney Martin of Artesia; step-daughter Taylor Avery of the family home ; mother and father Jean and Jim Waits of Aberdeen, Mississippi; sister Donna Chism of Amory, Mississippi; step-sister Linda Palmer of Tupelo, Mississippi ;mother-in-law and father-in-law Jerry and Mary Gayle Wood of Roswell, N.M.; grandmother-in-law Nita Taylor of the family home; Aunts and Uncles Janell and David Smith and Tommy and Patty Taylor of Artesia, and numerous other family members
