Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Hermosa Drive Baptist Church for Rena V. Johnson of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Johnson, 86, died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at her home.
Rev. Gavin Vaughan will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bob Combs, Ty Houghtaling, Jeff Houghtaling, Joby Houghtaling, Jerry Houghtaling, and Ed Gage. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Harrison, Jim Deason, Cecil Lunsford, Larry Combs, John Dowell, and Jim Bristow. Visitation at Terpening amp; Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Johnson was born January 28, 1923 in Nacogdoches, Texas; the daughter of John Castleberry and Velma Brantley Castleberry.
On June 7, 1941 she was married to Virgil P. Johnson in Orange, Texas. They came to Artesia in 1965 from Orange.
Rena was a homemaker and longtime member of the Hermosa Drive Baptist Church where she served as church secretary. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 2775 in Orange.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother John Castleberry; and by a grandson Terry Johnson.
Survivors include her husband Virgil Johnson of the family home; daughter Lanell Hale and husband Ron of Capitan, N.M.; son Lynn Johnson and wife Wanda of Artesia; brother Cleo Castleberry and wife Leora of Clovis, N.M.; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
