Remedios Chairez

Funeral Mass is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Remedios Chairez of Kansas.

Mrs. Chairez, 84, died Sunday, May 15, 2016 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.

Fr. Martin Cornejo will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her family members.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Thursday, May 19, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Mrs. Chairez was born May 11, 1932 in El Vergel, Zacatecas, Mexico to Marcial Chairez and Magdalena Romero.

She was married to Ignacio Lira in Mexico and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1995. She was also preceded in death by parents, three brothers, and children Pascual Lira Chairez, Sigifredo Lira Chairez, and Petra Lira Chairez.

Remedios was a homemaker and was raised in Mexico. After the death of her husband, she moved to the United States to be closer to her children in 2002. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Garden City and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Hermila Lira Chairez, Blanca Lira Chairez, Antonia Lira Chairez, Pantalion Lira Chairez, Sigifredo Lira Chairez, Irmacela Lira Chairez, Juan Lira Chairez, Pedro Zuniga Lira, and Celia Hidrogo Zuniga; brother Marcial Chairez; 36 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
