Raydean Owens

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 9, at First Baptist Church for Raydean Ray Owens, 1305 E. Castleberry Road, Artesia, New Mexico. PMr. Owens, 72, went to be with his Lord Friday, April 6, 2007 at Artesia General Hospital. PRev. Rick Sullivan will officate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Kemp, Walter Thayer, Glenn Donaldson, John Owens, Jim Elliott, and Wayne Lewis. PMr. Owens was born August 26, 1934 in Brownfield, Texas; the son of Burnis Frank Owens and Nellie Florence VanNoy Owens. POn Jan. 2, 1956 he was married to Verna Pounds in Artesia. He was a longtime resident of Artesia. PHe served in the United States Army. He was a Sales Manager in the Oil Industry. PHe was a member of First Baptist Church for approximately 55 years, Past President of the Optimist Club,member of Jaycees, taught Dale Carnegie courses for 10 years, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, was a speaker for the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities, and was a nationally recognized Cowboy Poet. PHe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. PSurvivors include his wife Verna Owens of the family home; sons Lonnie Owens and wife Amy of Roswell, N.M., and Brooke Owens and wife Becca of Artesia; brothers J. Lynn Owens and wife Virginia of Pecos, Texas, and John M. Owens and wife Lynn of Roswell; sisters Arlean Green of Arlington, Washington, and Judy Carol Philips of Gibsonton, Florida; grandchildren Amanda, Shelby, Cooper, Dylan, Jason and wife Kelly, April, and Courtney; and numerous nieces and nephews that were very important to him.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad.
